Ease your mind with top-to-bottom SAT Test Prep, personalized to your student's needs.

My Approach

I speak with each and every student extensively about their history with education, test prep, and the SAT. It is essential for me to understand how a student thinks, learns, and approaches the test in order for me to tailor my tutoring to them and help them reach their full potential.

Many students have never worked with a tutor or had any one-on-one education, so I want to make sure they get all the benefits of education tailored specifically to their needs. If a student has taken the SAT previously, we’ll discuss their experience and take a look at their scores, noting which areas are strong and which could use improvement.

If a student has never taken the SAT before, they will be assigned a diagnostic test. Diagnostic tests are imperative as they not only give a student hands-on practice with a timed, adaptive SAT, but provide accurate information on the specific topics and subtopics a student may need to work on.

Once I have a good idea what a student needs to work on, I will outline a lesson plan that delineates how frequently we will meet, for how long, and what subjects we will work on. I run through an “SAT Essentials” checklist with every student to ensure that they learn any possible topic that may show up on the test.

If the student is weak or unfamiliar with any of the topics on the checklist, we will spend time learning and practicing those concepts.

Of course, all of this is fully customizable. If a student is very comfortable in Reading but would like to focus on Math, we will primarily work on Math. If a student comes in only wanting help with some questions they got wrong on a practice test, I will go over those in depth. I am here to help every student with their specific needs, and fall back on my set plans only if a student does not have anything specific they’d like to do with me.

Week to week, your student will work through all topics that show up on the SAT, practicing what they are less familiar with first and then moving on to concepts they struggle with only on the most difficult questions. They will jump between Reading and Math to ensure they retain what they learn, and will be practicing with Collegeboard published questions, timed, to guarantee their knowledge is applicable to the stylings of the SAT test.

Every student is different and every path to a great score will change. Some students will need several lessons to learn or relearn essential topics like Quadratic Equations or Reading Comprehension, whereas others need practice only with the hardest problems the test has to offer.

Depending on your student’s schedule, they may or may not have homework each week. I like to give students a practice test about once a month to check their progress and figure out what areas to work on next. At every point in this process, I ask for input from you and your student as to what you would like to focus on next. Many people come to me with a specific topic they want to learn about, and I am happy to teach! All of my past students leave with improved SAT scores, and some improve over 200 points!
